Sta. Rita Hills may be best known for Pinot Noir, but winemaker Sonja Magdevski shows just how compelling Grenache can be in this cool, windswept corner of California. Fruit from Robert Rae Ranch, Peake Ranch, and Christy & Wise vineyards brings together three different soils and exposures, giving the wine a remarkable balance of color, intensity, freshness, and aromatic lift.
Made with 100% whole clusters, wild yeasts, extended skin contact, and one year in neutral French oak, the 2023 Clementine Carter Grenache is bright, expressive, and beautifully layered. Notes of pomegranate and desert flowers meet wild fennel, black tea, and savory spice, while fine tannins carry everything into a long, energetic finish.
Only 3,000 bottles were produced from organically and biodynamically farmed grapes. Awarded 96 points by Wine Enthusiast and 92 points by Wine Spectator, it is delicious now with a short decant and has the structure to develop through 2032. Serve slightly cool alongside lamb chops, tri-tip, grilled vegetables, pizza, or smash burgers.
