Alma Rosa’s “North Slope” Pinot Noir comes from one of California’s great cool-climate regions: the Sta. Rita Hills of Santa Barbara County.
It’s a region with a special connection to Alma Rosa founder Richard Sanford, who helped pioneer Pinot Noir in Santa Barbara County and demonstrate just how well the variety could thrive here.
The 2022 North Slope is sourced almost entirely from Alma Rosa’s estate El Jabali Vineyard, with a small portion of carefully selected partner fruit. Limestone-rich soils, cool Pacific fog and persistent afternoon breezes help the grapes retain the natural acidity, energy and elegance that have become hallmarks of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir.
Fermented in stainless steel and one-ton bins before spending 10 months in French oak, the wine pours a deep ruby and opens with ripe red fruit, freshly picked flowers, citrus peel, lavender and mint.
On the palate, bright red fruit is joined by a distinctive streak of oceanic salinity. Fresh acidity and firm yet elegant tannins carry everything through a refined, textured finish.
It’s a Pinot Noir that beautifully captures its coastal origins: fresh, energetic, balanced and unmistakably Sta. Rita Hills.
