Malbec from the top of the world

2nd highest vineyard in the world
Organic
Malbec, Syrah, Merlot

In the 2018 Vino Tinto Uraqui, winemaker Claudio Zuccino combines grapes from two vineyards in Quebrada de Humahuaca, one at 8,800 feet above sea level and the other at 10,800 feet - the 2nd highest vineyard in the world. This blend of 60% Malbec, 30% Syrah and 10% Merlot is not aged in oak, and is made in as hands off an approach as possible. The wine is aged in the old barium sulfate mine Cava Mina Moya (the highest altitude wine cellar in the world; higher even than the vineyard at 12,100 feet).

Ayni winery is dedicated to making its production as eco-friendly and low impact as possible by growing organically, producing their own compost for the vineyards, and doing the harvest & much of the production by hand.

The result is a shimmering deep violet wine, with a range of herbal notes, black fruit, cassis and truffle. Intense and bold in the mouth, the juicy palate brings both lightness and body.

Also Available: Sunal Ilógico Malbec | 2018 | Calchaqui Valley, Argentina

10x resveratrol levels and 93% less sugar than bulk grocery store reds

A vibrant red color, with shiny hues of blue and purple that give it a more youthful look. Aromas of fresh berry (cranberry and blueberry) with discrete herbal scents (basil and oregano).

This is a clean wine on the palate – no overwhelming body here. The tannins are smooth and soft with delicate edges. A clever, but quiet, wine. Give it time, and it may just show you something special.

In the finish you discover an earthy, almost ashy drying sensation to amplify the herbs. I even got a touch of mint and spice too, a white and green pepper mix. This wine will open up your taste buds. Be ready for a meal.

Also Available: Mayuco Malbec | 2020 | Calchaqui Valley, Argentina

No oak
90 points from Robert Parker
Only 9,000 bottles made

Deep in Argentina’s desert (and deserted) Calchaquí Valleys, a river called Mayuco feeds a few acres of thick, dark malbec grapes. The Calchaquí desert, dry and extremely high altitude, is a harsh environment where old malbec vines grow on their original rootstock under hot, harsh sun and chilly nights.

Here winemaker Raúl Dávalos continues a family tradition 200 years old, producing handmade, unfiltered, critically acclaimed wines with an astonishing depth of flavor and soaring antioxidant levels. Nose of fresh berry with a spicy kick. Let it aerate a moment, and you’ll find velvety tannins & hints of dark chocolate on the palate.

A note about our Satisfaction Guarantee: Wines, sadly, are not like power tools. A hardware store can always resell a hammer you used a couple times. Not so for a bottle of wine. Once you pop the cork, it’s a total loss to us. For that reason, we cannot offer full refunds on these offers. But don’t worry, if the wine arrives and there’s something wrong with it, just give us a call and we’ll do what we can to make it right. As a Bonner Private Wine Partnership member, your satisfaction is all-important to us.
