Hello and welcome to your new Bonner Private Wines video. The best wine club in America, as you know. Where we learn about wine weekly together. Today I want to show you how to open a bottle of wine that is sealed with wax. Like a real wine Pro. How to remove the wax wine seal. Looking like you actually know.

00:00:23:14 – 00:00:48:18
You really know what you’re doing. Most people, including myself until recently, I have to admit, I think that you need to cut around the wax like you would cut off the full on a normal barrel. But this looks really awkward and believe me, I’ve done it myself and not classy at all. While in fact it’s much simpler and more elegant than you think.

00:00:48:18 – 00:01:14:06
If you do it properly. And I’ll show you that in just a second. If you follow the channel, and I strongly recommend you subscribe right now, if you are not subscribed yet. So we continue learning together. And while you’re there, give this video a like if you found it useful new. So that last week I attempted removing the wax from a bottle and I failed miserably.

00:01:14:07 – 00:01:47:08
I suggest you watch my failure white here or link at the end of this video after we finished with this one, as it’s super interesting and I’ll get to why I miserably failed last week. If you’ve watched that video and you wonder what happened, but for now, let me show you how it’s properly done. So you take a normal corkscrew, your favorite one probably, and you aim at the center of the bottle and you just push through the wax.

00:01:47:08 – 00:02:12:08
You try to aim for the very center, and you push end like you normally would and get your corkscrew right in to the bottle. I suggest that, as I said last week, you leave—you don’t push the cork all the way in, as it makes it a little bit easier—and then you just leverage and pull it up.

00:02:12:08 – 00:02:36:18
And as you can see, the wax just cuts pretty nicely, pretty cleanly all around the barrel. It works really well. And all you need to do is finish off your leveraging. just make sure maybe you clean up a bit around if there is a little bit of wax. So nothing falls into your bottle. And here you are.

00:02:36:20 – 00:03:06:18
You have a really nice clean cut around your bottle. And that’s essentially it. It’s as simple as this. And you’re done. That’s all you need to know. No cutting, no nothing messy. It’s all nice and clean. And so why did I fail last time? What I’ve learned in this process, and you always learn something from a failure, is that there are different types of wax that are used to seal the bottles.

00:03:06:18 – 00:03:44:08
The traditional wax, which this one is that we used on today’s bottles and it’s often red, is really hard and it breaks neatly. But to reduce costs, I imagine, and to make it easier for themselves while packaging, some wineries now use a softer wax that is more like plastic, which is what I had last week and why I failed in that particular case where the wax is more like plastic and soft, and you can see this one doesn’t even there’s an even pull, like it’s really more like plastic.

00:03:44:10 – 00:04:13:10
Well, in this case you might want to cut around. Stay tuned to the channel, share this video with people who might be interested and give us a like before you go. It actually helps us immensely to make more of those wine videos for you. I’ll see you soon and in the wonderful wine. Have fun, enjoy your videos. Cheers!
