The grapes used in this Crozes-Hermitage are a massal selection of syrah called “les serines”. Massal selection is the practice of replanting new vineyards with cuttings from exceptional old vines from the same (or nearby) property, leading to better vines over time. All of winemaker Natacha Chave’s wines are organic and, recently, biodynamic certified; she does every aspect by hand, refuses to use chemicals, fining or filtration, and opts for “demi-muid” barrels so as not to cloud the wisdom of her 50-year-old syrah vines with unnecessary oak flavor. Cellar up to 2025.
