Casarena Naoki's Vineyard Malbec | 2018 | Lujan de Cuyo, Argentina

The “New Frontier” Malbec

3,120 feet
92 points, Tim Atkin
92 points, James Suckling

This Single Vineyard wine comes from a newly discovered terroir – an untouched plateau rich with limestone that imparts a unique minerality to the usually fruity varietal.

On the nose, a marked floral profile characteristic of this property, as well as the typical notes of the varietal: plums and fresh red fruit with floral notes and a subtle touch of spices from the local flora.

Limestone outcroppings in the vineyard create a mineral texture and fresh mouthfeel with polished tannins. It is a complex and balanced wine with a long finish. Pair with slow-braised short ribs, bacon-wrapped dates, or spicy cheeses.

Tigerstone Malbec | 2018 | Salta, Argentina

The “Tigerstone” Malbec

5,200 feet
Malbec
Natural yeast
94 points, James Suckling

The Tigerstone wines are so called after the striped, angular rocks found in the highest lots in the Estancia los Cardones vineyards. These rocky surface stones force the vines to struggle, creating the lowest yields of any of their lots, and consequently the most concentrated grapes.

The Tigerstone malbec demonstrates the struggle of this terroir beautifully, with its dark, almost black color, and aromas of ripe, dark fruits. The signature of Salta is there in the wild, herbaceous notes, and the mouthfeel remains fresh, with a crisp, acidic finish. Fermented with natural yeast, with 14 months in 15% new French oak.

Tikal Patriota Malbec | 2018 | Mendoza, Argentina

The "Patriotic" Malbec

93 points, James Suckling
Biodynamic vineyards
3,280 feet

Tikal was founded by Ernesto Catena, a 4th generation winemaker of Italian descent who, having spent a part of his life working as a designer, and being a fervent student of Renaissance humanism, sees it as his mission to transform everything in his wine world into art, from growing the grapes to making wine to selling it.

As #45 on Wine Spectator’s ‘Top 100 List’ in 2015, this ‘Patriotic’ old-vine Bonarda and Malbec is blended to perfection. Deep reddish purple with aromas of bright berry/cherry fruit. Big body yet very balanced with luscious layers of raspberry, cherry, and cocoa flavors. Just a hint of baking spice at the end brings it all together.

A great companion to grilled or smoked meats. Pairs well with beef and pork, and even pizza with meat toppings.

Finca Gualfín Tacana Malbec | 2020 | Calchaquí Valley, Argentina

The Bonner Family Malbec

8,400 feet
Organic
No oak

Tacana is the Bonner’s very first wine, from the Bonner family ranch, the wine which originally gave rise to the Partnership. Pucarilla vineyard, discovered by Bill and his sons, is home to rows of old-growth malbec still on their original rootstock, completely unaffected by phylloxera. Pucarilla sits at more than 8,400 feet of elevation, a tiny green valley high in the dry & rocky mountains. Snowmelt and careful management of rainwater keep the vines producing.

Rich cocoa, dark purple fruits, soft tannins. Fresh, free of cloying oak flavor, yet plush in mouthfeel. An intense, layered experience.

Puramun Reserva | 2016 | Uco Valley, Argentina

The personal project of “Argentina’s most Important Winemaker”

95 points from Tim Atkin
92 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Only 4,000 cases made

In 2010, Argentina’s “most important winemaker” Pepe Galante walked away from the legendary Catena winery after 34 years at the helm. As it turned out, he was leaving to do something special: to handcraft his first personal, 100% family-owned wine, Puramun. (Only 4,000 cases a year.)

Look at its opaque color and you’ll understand why Europeans in the Middle Ages called Malbec “black wine.” And yes, the flavor is just as potent as the color. But don’t be afraid; there’s subtlety here too.

You’ll find aromas of red berry and black fruit, with a touch of spice. This Puramun is proof that a bold, intense Malbec can be elegant. On the palate, it’s an energetic wine, with silky, caressing tannins (unusually soft for a high elevation wine).

The wine has received rave reviews from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (92 pts) and wine competition judge Tim Atkin (95 pts), who praised its “elegant…subtle spices, well integrated oak and silky, palate-caressing tannins.”

BONUS BOTTLE: Altocedro Gran Reserva | 2019 | Uco Valley, Argentina

The “Sacred Cedar” Malbec

3,450 feet
100+ year old vineyard
97% malbec, 3% semillon
96 pts. Vinous (’19)
92 pts. Wine Spectator (’18)
93 pts. Wine Advocate (’17)

Altocedro, meaning “tall cedar,” represents both winemaker and owner Karim Mussi Saffie's Lebanese-Argentine heritage, and the ancient cedar trees which tower over his winery. Karim, for years dedicated to the grapes of La Consulta, was the first to pioneer this now-famous region.

Saffie's original old vine rootstocks (from vineyards over a century old), indigenous yeasts, hundred year-old concrete fermentation tanks, and minimalist winemaking techniques create true terroir-driven wines. Lusciously spiced, with a mix of cherry tart, red cherry and plum flavors, and a light note of oak.

A note about our Satisfaction Guarantee: Wines, sadly, are not like power tools. A hardware store can always resell a hammer you used a couple times. Not so for a bottle of wine. Once you pop the cork, it’s a total loss to us. For that reason, we cannot offer full refunds on these offers. But don’t worry, if the wine arrives and there’s something wrong with it, just give us a call and we’ll do what we can to make it right.
