The name “La Confundida” (The Mistaken One) is a nod to the varietal, carménère, the lost Bordeaux grape thought extinct until it was discovered that “Chilean merlot,” which had long puzzled winemakers for its later-than-typical ripening, was, in fact, carménère. After the mid-1800s phylloxera crisis in Europe, carménère was largely not replanted in France, so little knowledge about this amazing variety was left.
Winemaker Marcela Chandía, a Chilean native, has traveled the world learning to make wine in New Zealand, South Africa, France, Portugal and the US. After soaking up all the knowledge she could abroad, she returned to Chile to create high quality wines showcasing Chile’s incredible potential.
Deep ruby colored, with ripe fruit aromas of blueberries and blackberries along with floral violet notes, spicy black pepper and hints of vanilla and cocoa from 14 months of aging in toasted French oak. Smooth tannins, full body, and fresh acidity.
