In the rolling hills of Monferrato, far from the Barolo buzz, the Carosso family has been tending vines since 1781. Today, Giovanni and Marco Carosso continue their father Giuseppe’s vision: to let nature lead and let the land speak. At Cascina Galarin, wine is not an industry, it’s a generational craft.

The Crocevia is a Nebbiolo grown in clay-calcareous soils at 250–380 meters above sea level. The vineyard’s east-west orientation ensures perfect sun exposure and natural drainage, ideal for this noble variety. The vines are old and self-regulating, often producing just a handful of grapes per plant. No herbicides. No pesticides. No green harvesting. Just intuition, deep roots, and faith in the rhythm of nature.

Once picked, the grapes are gently fermented and then aged for 20 months: 8 in barriques or tonneaux, followed by 12 in large 15hl casks. Bottling happens under a waning moon with only a touch of sulfur and no filtration, an ancient practice that reflects the Carosso family’s belief in purity and patience.

The result is a Nebbiolo of rare character: ruby red with aromas of dried roses, mint, truffle, and spice. On the palate, it’s both firm and graceful, with finely balanced tannins and vibrant structure. It’s Piedmont, but with a pulse entirely of its own.

This is not mass-market. This is wine made slowly, by people who care.
