Along Argentina’s Ruta 40 in Tolombón, at roughly 6,070 feet, the Calchaquí Valley reveals its harsher side. Intense sun, wide diurnal shifts, and sandy, stony soils shape fruit that ripens fully yet holds its structure. It is a place where concentration comes naturally, but balance must be earned.
Atypico began as a collaboration between friends. One brought the vineyard, one the barrels, and Agustín Lanús the winemaking. It was conceived less as a label and more as a shared vision. The blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the logic of the north: depth anchored by structure, fruit supported by tension.
Aged 18 months in French oak, the wine is guided by restraint. Oak frames the fruit without overshadowing it. In the glass, dark berries and black olive lead, layered with mint and thyme. The palate is fresh and focused, with firm, well-shaped tannins and a composed, savory finish.
The project continues in smaller volumes, carried forward with quiet determination. That same steadiness defines the 2019 vintage. Direct. Honest. Intentional.
