The isolated vineyard of Luracatao sits at 8,950 ft. above sea level, on a northerly slope completely surrounded by mountains. The surrounding rocks soak up the heat, protecting the vines from freezing at night. When winemaker Augustín Lanús first made wine from Luracatao, the wine’s inky red color actually managed to turn his stainless-steel vats bright red! (The coloring is a tell-tale sign of high resveratrol levels.
Lab testing shows levels in this wine are up to 10 TIMES that of other wines.) Agustín was also surprised to find notes that you don’t tend to find in other Malbecs – black olive, violet, graphite, and blackberry. You should drink this wine soon to get the full effect of its freshness and rare floral expression. However, it will hold and even evolve within the next 2-3 years.
