Anti-Prime Day: Skip the “BIG” Retailer & Shop Small

Note: We’re bucking the trend of mass-market drivel and putting some of our often over-looked, small-batch wines from all over the world on an “Anti Prime Day” sale!

Below are 3 wines from unique winemakers & vineyards where wine is not just a business, but a passion, … and who don’t have the words “filler” or “bulk” in their vocabulary.

Valle Arriba Mayuco Torrontes | 2023 | Calchaquí Valley, Argentina

The Extreme Altitude Torrontes

8,530 ft.
From Tacana winemaker Raúl Dávalos

Deep in Argentina’s desert (and deserted) Calchaquí Valleys, a river called Mayuco feeds a few acres of of old, gnarled grapevines. The Calchaquí desert, dry and extremely high altitude, is a harsh environment where ancient vines grow on their original rootstock under hot, harsh sun and chilly nights. Here winemaker Raúl Dávalos continues a family tradition 200 years old, producing handmade, unfiltered, critically acclaimed wines.

Floral nose with roses and herbs, with hints of lychee and pink pepper. Dry yet creamy with a full body.

Château Lalande-Poitevin Graves | 2018 | Bordeaux, France

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
Graves (Bordeaux)

The Château de Castres dates back to the 16th century. Pre-phylloxera it was one of the largest wineries in the region. The Lalande-Poitevin family acquired it in 1996 and did a complete renovation, replanting every vine. They kept the wisdom of centuries – still preferring hand harvests and traditional methods in the winery.

Tradition is sacred in Graves, with its gravelly soil formed by glaciers an eon ago. The region is home to some of Bordeaux’s oldest vineyards (the most famous of which is Haut Brion – pronounced “O’Brian” FYI).

This 2018 is a lighter Graves, though the classic spice and plum are there. But this isn’t one you age for decades.

Torelló Cava 2a 18/19 | Penedès, Spain

Organic
Long aging potential
Xarel.lo, Macabeo, Parellada
91 points, Guía Peñín

Winemakers since 1395 (Paco de la Rosa Torelló is the 23rd generation to stand at the helm), Torelló makes what used to be called Cava, and is now called Corpinnat, the result of a defection from the Cava DO (denominación de origen) towards a new, more exclusive Corpinnat DO by several of the top Cava producers from Penedès.

Torelló’s secret (one of many, we are sure) lies in a distinctive buildup of calcium carbonate in their soil, a “petrocalcic horizon” that both enriches the soil with minerals and limits the vines’ access to water.

The wine’s name references the two vintage years it contains: 2018 and 2019. The latter was wet with a delayed harvest. The former was blistering, as two heat waves rolled over Catalonia. The winemakers opted to combine the two extremes. The result has fine, clean bubbles, notes of citrus and pear, and is dry and well balanced with a touch of Mediterranean herbs.

About the Bonner Private Wine Partnership

Founded by Will Bonner, the Partnership is a group of wine lovers who come together to import great, small batch wines that might otherwise get overlooked by large importers.

No middle men. No additive-packed supermarket wines. No inflated costs.

WE CANNOT SHIP TO THESE STATES:

Arkansas, Delaware, Mississippi, Utah

If you live in one of these states, you’ll need to select an alternative delivery destination.

*Note: Shipping is available to Alaska & Hawaii for additional fee*

Please be aware: We cannot deliver to P.O. boxes.

An adult signature is required for all shipments of alcohol.

A note about our Satisfaction Guarantee: Wines, sadly, are not like power tools. A hardware store can always resell a hammer you used a couple times. Not so for a bottle of wine. Once you pop the cork, it’s a total loss to us. For that reason, we cannot offer full refunds on these offers. But don’t worry, if the wine arrives and there’s something wrong with it, just give us a call and we’ll do what we can to make it right. As a member, your satisfaction is all-important to us.
